What special concessions do you feel there are in taking your kids out on the playa?
Has anyone felt they needed to try and schedule things for the kids, or was BM enough for the kids to just go and pop into things here and there?
My husband and I are both virgin burners but it became apparent a little while ago that it would be less work in planning (we think) to just take them. They're 8 and 5 years old. Boys. We're in a camp full of people who (most of) already know us and our kids.
They're both good campers and do well in the heat. They're also endlessly excited by the prospect of wearing whatever crazy thing they want, wearing goggles all the time, and drinking out of a tube from a backpack. They've been practicing. lol

Re: child concessions
Tue, September 25, 2007 - 7:14 AMWe ended up only bringing the older of the two. We had him on independent study for the run. Worked out really well. He got up before us and did his work and if he had questions we went over them later.
We had a little bike trailer to haul him around in which was a godsend. We did the green eggs and ham breakfast and the lightsaber battle and went to the boutique (he really wanted a vest) and took turns venturing out with or without him with friends from camp during the day while the other would stay behind, or someone from camp would make sure he didn't take off.
He had his own cambelbak so hydration wasn't a big issue. He thought wearing goggles and drinking from a backpack were way cool.
He did have a meltdown while we were packing up. But that was pretty nominal.
The lightsaber battle made his whole trip. An blinkies and climbing into our camp's tower. -

Re: child concessions
Mon, October 1, 2007 - 9:42 AMI got to have my cake and eat it.
I took all three of my kids on Sunday and we had a blast!
On Wed. my they built a Burning Kid and we took it on a tour on our art car and then burned it out on the plaza. Some friends came and spun fire and another DPW friend came and let the kids work his flame thrower. I took them to Reno on Thursday am (to my mom) and I came back and got do Burning Man without kids.
